HORNER, W.Va. (WV News) — Horner CEOS members finalized plans for Palm Sunday’s Easter egg hunt in Weston during their March 20 meeting in the HCPC building.
Family leader Kaye Loyd explained that members had filled the eggs for the community Easter egg hunt that was held at Peterson-Central Elementary School playground. Stone Coal and Horner churches also helped with this activity for children in grades kindergarten through five.
President Donis Hannah called the meeting to order, stating that many activities and matters needed to be discussed. So, we got right down to business.
Barbara Godfrey led the Pledge to Allegiance, and Rhonda Perkey read a very appropriate story called “You are a New Creation,” about the rebirth that is experienced during the life cycle of the butterfly and compared it to us.
Flora Elliot read the minutes, and they were approved as read. Mida Peterson gave the treasurer’s report.
Debbie Myers highlighted events that were coming up for the Marketing and Membership committee: Salad Luncheon will be held on May 20, and the tip of the hat needs to be considered.
Whitney Ballard gave out list and papers to mark the books we have read on the Purposeful Reading list and asked how many had read from the list yet. She also encouraged members to think about entering the Poetry and Writing contest.
The Education committee, Lisa and Kyle Arnold, asked that members attend any meetings and become informed citizens concerning the Levy that is coming up and to consider all that it does for different organizations and schools within our community. The Levy will be voted on May 14.
Health Motivator Rhonda Perkey stated how important sleep is to health and gave different methods to help us receive a good night’s rest. She also gave out two recipes that will lead to a healthy diet.
Flora Elliot gave an excellent lesson on the Crazy Quilt. She explained how they got started and the different beautiful stitches that were included with the quilt. She brought in an example of her crazy quilt, and there were some older quilts for members to examine.
Show How day will be April 16 and plans for singing and table favors had to be discussed and decided on since we would not meet again before the event. Projects also will be due that day.
Refreshments were served by Whitney Ballard.
